THE DUCATI DESMOTO
The Ducati Desmoto is my personal vision of the ultimate road-focused Ducati Supermotard.
An ultra-lightweight, high-performance machine built around a heavily modified Ducati 1100DS air-cooled 2-valve engine. No comfort. No rider aids. No compromises. Just a raw mechanical experience that rewards confidence and punishes hesitation.
Every aspect of the motorcycle was designed around three core principles: maximum performance, minimum weight, and absolute uniqueness.
Constructed almost entirely from titanium, magnesium, aluminium and carbon-fibre reinforced nylon, the Ducati Desmoto weighs approximately 141kg wet while producing 104hp and 119Nm of torque at the rear wheel. Originally developed to produce 112hp, the final ECU mapping was intentionally softened to improve reliability, extend service intervals and allow operation on 98 pump fuel.
The result is a motorcycle that feels far more aggressive than the numbers suggest. Lightweight, responsive and brutally direct, it delivers an experience that few modern motorcycles can replicate. It has a higher horsepower per ton ratio then a Bugatti Veyron!
More than 95% of the motorcycle has been custom designed, engineered or manufactured specifically for this project. Over 2,000 hours were invested throughout a development period spanning 5.5 years.
The Ducati Desmoto was displayed at the Bike Shed Show 2026 and attracted significant attention for both its engineering and unique appearance. It is not a custom motorcycle built around catalogue parts; it is a complete engineering exercise executed with the goal of creating something genuinely unique.
The motorcycle currently shows approximately 330km and is, for all practical purposes, brand new.

ROAD LEGALITY
The motorcycle is road registered and currently carries a registration as a 2008 Ducati Multistrada 1100.
It is equipped with all required road equipment including headlight, tail light, brake light, indicators and horn. Registration requirements vary by country, therefore prospective buyers should verify local regulations before importation.
While registered as a Multistrada 1100, very little of the original motorcycle remains. The original engine crankcases form the basis of the powerplant, while the swingarm and front forks are among the few remaining OEM Ducati components. Virtually everything else has been redesigned, modified or manufactured specifically for this project.
ENGINE & PERFORMANCE
The first 200 kilometres of the Ducati Desmoto’s life were spent on a dyno. This allowed the engine to be properly run in while simultaneously refining ignition timing, fuel mapping and throttle response.
The current engine specification produces 104hp and 119Nm at the rear wheel with a compression ratio of 13:1. While higher output figures were achieved during development, the final setup was selected to maximise reliability and allow operation on premium 98 octane pump fuel.
The engine has been completely rebuilt from the ground up and incorporates numerous performance and weight-reduction modifications including:

Every visible aluminium surface has been glass-bead blasted to achieve a clean and consistent finish.
FRAME & SUSPENSION
At the heart of the motorcycle sits a professionally manufactured aluminium chassis weighing just 4.2kg.
Produced by Ducati Radical France, only fifteen examples were ever manufactured. Originally inspired by the Ducati 999 platform, the frame has been extensively modified to suit the Desmoto concept.
The suspension consists of:
• Ducati Hypermotard 1100 front forks
• Öhlins TTX electronically controlled rear shock absorber from a Panigale 1199
The rear suspension is controlled through a custom-developed electronic system known as the ÖTX Controller, allowing rebound and compression settings to be adjusted electronically through multiple presets.
The front end is mounted using a completely bespoke triple-clamp assembly designed specifically for this project.
Suspension setup and tuning were performed by a well known Dutch suspension specialist.
BRAKES & WHEELS
Stopping performance comes courtesy of ISR Sweden components manufactured specifically for this build. The system combines ISR calipers, pistons and fully adjustable levers with Brembo WSBK HPK brake discs. Braking force and lever position can both be adjusted to suit rider preference.
All critical titanium fasteners throughout the braking and drivetrain systems are safety wired.
The motorcycle rides on 17-inch forged magnesium Marchesini wheels fitted with Pirelli Supercorsa SP tyres.
Wheel weights:
• Front: 2.8kg
• Rear: 4.1kg
Extremely lightweight and increasingly difficult to source, these wheels represent a significant contribution to the motorcycle’s overall performance.
WEIGHT REDUCTION
Weight reduction was a primary objective throughout the entire project.
The Ducati Desmoto weighs approximately 141kg wet, representing a reduction of roughly 60kg compared with many motorcycles using the same engine platform.
To achieve this figure, extensive use was made of:
• Titanium
• Magnesium
• Aluminium
• Carbon-fibre reinforced nylon
Approximately 99% of all fasteners on the motorcycle are titanium.
The result is a machine that feels astonishingly light both at a standstill and on the move.
EXHAUST SYSTEM
The exhaust system is one of the most visually complex elements of the entire motorcycle.
Constructed from laser-cut 1mm thin-wall stainless steel pie cuts, the complete system was designed around packaging constraints while maintaining optimal exhaust flow and preserving the motorcycle’s exceptionally slim rear profile.
Exhaust runner lengths were carefully calculated and matched as closely as possible and optimised for the engine’s camshaft specifications.
Twin Shortbox Powersprint silencers provide minimal restriction while maintaining acceptable noise levels for road use.
For situations where additional noise reduction is required, a manually operated exhaust valve system can reduce sound output by partially closing both exhaust outlets.
Given the extremely tight packaging, significant heat-management measures were implemented, including:
• Cerakote Piston coat
• Fibreglass reflective insulation
• Stainless-steel 0.1mm heat shielding combined with ceramic wool (also used in MotoGP)
BODYWORK, FINISHES & MATERIALS
Every visible body panel was designed specifically for the Ducati Desmoto.
The complete bodywork is manufactured from carbon-fibre reinforced nylon (PA12 HT-CF) using industrial additive manufacturing processes. This material offers excellent strength, low weight and high temperature resistance.
All bodywork has been finished with a matte clear coat to improve durability and create a unique visual texture.
The embossed Ducati Desmoto logos are filled using UV-resistant epoxy incorporating metallic white flakes.
Also a unique feature of this machine is the removable headlight plate that allows the daytime running lights to shine through, but can be removed with quick release fasteners when the full headlight needs to be revealed.
Included in the sale are numerous spare body panels!
The magnesium wheels have been refinished in high-gloss gold.
Visible aluminium components including the frame, fuel tank and subframe have been brushed and coated in high-gloss Cerakote clear coating for long-term protection.
Additional Cerakote finishes have been applied throughout the motorcycle, including Glacier Silver coatings on selected components.
ELECTRONICS
The wiring loom was designed and fabricated specifically for this motorcycle with the goal of creating the cleanest and most minimal installation possible.
A complete wiring diagram will be included with the sale.
The electronics package incorporates extensive Motogadget equipment including:
• M-Unit Blue
• Motoscope Mini
• Mo.Lock
• Mo.Blaze front indicators
• Mo.Blaze rear 3-in-1 lighting system
The motorcycle can be unlocked using NFC tags or Bluetooth-enabled devices.
A lightweight lithium battery provides the high starting current required by the engine’s compression ratio while contributing further weight savings.
The custom-developed ÖTX Controller allows electronic adjustment of rear suspension settings directly from the motorcycle.
FUEL CAPACITY
The hand-fabricated aluminium fuel cell holds approximately 9.5 litres.
Expected range is approximately 95 kilometres depending on riding style.
Premium 98 octane fuel is required.
THE HIDDEN DETAILS
Many of the most interesting details on the Ducati Desmoto are not immediately obvious.
Visible titanium fasteners have been laser engraved with FTR branding, inspired by the attention to detail often found on modern hypercars.
Fuel level is monitored through a discreet external sight tube integrated into the motorcycle’s design.
Hidden throughout the motorcycle are small details, messages and references intended to be discovered over time. Some are visible in plain sight, while others only reveal themselves during maintenance or disassembly.
These details may never be noticed by most people, but they reflect the philosophy behind the entire project: every component, every surface and every decision was considered.
