THE BUILD

– 2014 Triumph Thruxton 900 EFI w/25,000 miles (Salvage Title) – 5K OBO PH: 323-717-5569

– Some bikes are meant to be ridden, to be loved, to be admired at 75 miles an hour as they rip surely and loudly past you on the highway.

– Other bikes are merely trophies – objects that sit in a garage and are pulled out on Sundays and ridden down the street to the local coffee shop, then returned to their trophy case. For the first 7 years of its “life” this was that kind of bike, then one day the owner knocked it over in that garage and his insurance company decided that the cost of repairing the small dent in the tank, the mirrors and the turn signals exceeded the value of the bike(!) and declared it a write-off. The insurance company sold it on to someone who cleaned it up and sold it to me in 2021 with 3,500 miles on the odometer and a Salvage Title.

– When I bought this bike it was a gorgeous café racer basically identical to any other on the road of its year, make and model. The day I received delivery I pulled out onto Melrose Ave, and at the very first stop light almost identical bike pulled up beside me. Oh. Hell. No!

– First to go were those woeful factory mufflers and the air box – replaced by a pair of Emgos and air pods. The standard cross exhaust system was eliminated (creating true 2 into 2 exhaust elimination), we added the exhaust wrap, and the ECU was updated with a custom mapping.

– Badass sound – Check!
– Badass look – Check!
– Improved performance – maybe, but that wasn’t really the point for me. This bike looks, feels and sounds awesome, and without getting into re-sprocketing and specific tuning any performance gains were going to be nominal at best.

– I replaced the standard chrome shocks with black and gold air-shocks. The bike already had the rear guard removed and a taillight eliminator kit (super bright with excellent flashing when breaking) and I supplemented the look with a custom combination of handlebar end turn signals and lane-splitter style mirrors. I then replaced the stock seat with a limited edition scrambler seat with a chrome rack. I added crash bars and mounted additional light for visibility and to reinforce the awesome classic look of the bike. And I finally dropped the plate down to the wheel when it kept coming off its mount over the wheel.

– This bike has been loved, which means it has been ridden – a lot. It has always been covered, and it has been garaged on and off, but I wouldn’t say that the paint or the chrome is perfect by any means. There is a small dent in one of the exhausts from someone backing onto the bike, and the rubber on the pegs are getting to pretty worn. The custom work and maintenance has been handled by the guys over at Thunder Road on Santa Monica – feel free to give them a call to ask about it.

– I have taken it out on multiple trips to the High desert, up the mountains to Big Bear, and up the coast to Big Sur & Carmel (twice) – but mostly its been my daily driver while I am in LA. It starts every time – but the extra headlights add a lot of draw on the battery and it’s best to keep it topped up if making frequent short hops.

– I have the original seat and cowl and the standard side covers (if you want to return the original look). I will also throw in an alarm system and the saddle bags if you like them (they are also customized). It also comes with a battery tender and extension. Note also that the tachometer (i.e.the rev counter) is not working but all lights and warnings etc are functional.
