Let’s start with, I don’t really want to sell it. It’s my favorite bike, a truly unique R80 G/S that goes like stink, lifts the front wheel, handles and stops better than any new bike and weighs 400lbs. But I do this for a living and I don’t get to ride it nearly as much as it deserves. I have to ride customer bikes every week, so I’ll take your money and move on with my life.

Let’s go into some detail. Front to back.

New Ohlins telescopic forks with fork gaiters to mimic the look of the original. Custom triple tree, cerakoted because California’s version black anodizing turns purple with UV exposure. New headlight binnacle housing set of new LED dash lights, rebuilt factory Speedometer and a new Marchal headlight. The Marchal headlight does not fit the internal factory headlight bracket so we machined one from aluminum. 22mm braced handlebars, heated grips, new factory throttle assembly and brake master cylinder. Left control perch is a 1975 piece that was cleaned, blasted and refinished in cerakote. This unit does not have the choke assembly (because we’re using Smartcarbs and the choke is on the body of the carb). The switchgear is special and will only be appreciated by the BMW aficionados, of whom hate any sort of deviation from factory anyway so maybe no-one cares. I took new euro headlight switch and rewired it so that you can control the headlight and auxiliary light from the single switch. It’s fused and relayed and allows headlight only, headlight and auxiliary and all off. It’s one badass light switch that no sane person should ever try to replicate.

Factory hand guards are high front fender finished in Alpine White. A custom stainless brake line meets a splitter under the gas tank which feeds the Axially mounted Brembo calipers.
An R1200 wheel hub was vapor blasted, received new bearings and seals and laced to a new 21″ R100GS tubeless polished rim, and clad in a Michelin Awake Wild tire.

The frame was modified lightly before being blasted and painted in Avus Black. Powder coat is for park benches. Before paint we test fit accessories and fabricated mounting brackets, including the battery. We’ve deleted the battery try and got the battery under the tank and test fit every version of G/S gas tank and they all fit.

The engine. That Krauser 4 Valve engine is no ordinary engine. I acquired it from an ex Krauser Race tech, in a Krauser built motorcycle. The bike was roached so I saved the engine and it underwent a full crank out rebuild. The case was vapor blasted and ultrasonically cleaned before receiving new main bearing and under going a crank up rebuild. The 4 Valve heads were machined and refurbished to as new. I sourced new standard size Krauser 4V pistons and new 1000cc Nikasil cylinders from Germany.

New Silent Hectik charge and ignition system. Braided ignition cables and Porsche 912 bakelite plug caps.

5 Speed kickstart gearbox received new bearings and a couple of new gears.

The swingarm has been extended 50mm, new u joint, new bearings and painted Avus Black.

Ohlins rear suspension, fully adjustable. I have it set really soft for bopping around LA, riding through potholes and over homeless people.

Final drive is a 33/11. This is really long gearing, with the Krauser 4 Valve engine it just keeps on pulling and pulling well beyond legal speed limits.

4 bolt rear wheel. The R100GS rear hub is brand new, as are the brake shoes. The hub was decked to fit the 4 bolt mono shock final drive before being laced to a polished 17″ R100GS tubeless rim. The wheel was laced offset to accommodate the oversize rear tire.

New factory headers finished in black chrome are finished with a factory original chrome muffler and metal heat shield.

Factory original R80G/S oil sump and high polished sump guard.
